BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cuppa Yo, a Bend-founded frozen yogurt chain, is celebrating 15 years by planning to open its third shop later this summer near the Costco shopping plaza off NW Robal Lane. The company said it now has 15 locations in eight states and its other Bend shops are on NE Cushing Drive and NW Newport Avenue—expanding its local presence.  Bend Bulletin
  • Secret Waffle Society is a food truck in downtown Bend that opened earlier this year and is run by Air Force veterans Cassandra Donohoe and Zeus; it serves sweet and savory stuffed waffles with special dipping sauces and free meals for people in need. The truck operates from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Sunday (prices $2.75–$6) (discounts for veterans, first responders, budtenders and teachers).  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ferry Fire, which started Wednesday 1.5 miles south of Cottonwood Canyon State Park along the John Day River, grew to 9,107 acres with 5% containment while its cause remains under investigation. A Type 3 Incident Management Team took command on Friday at 6:00 a.m. and crews worked overnight to protect structures and clear Highway 206 — residents are urged to follow advice from local fire personnel as efforts continue.  KTVZ
  • Fire officials warned that about 75% of Central Oregon's wildfires are triggered by human activity and additional fire restrictions will take effect next Monday—recent fires near Madras, Bend, and the Rowena Fire that destroyed at least 20 homes were confirmed human-caused. Officials urged the community to work together to reduce fire risks during the dry, hot start to the season.  KTVZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Central Oregon’s favorite bike race returns in downtown Bend today with the Cascade Cycling Classic Criterium running from noon to 9 p.m.—the pro women start at 5:40 p.m. and the pro men at 7:25 p.m. Streets will be closed to traffic and the event, produced by the Horner Cycling Foundation, offers a $20,000 prize for each group.  Bend Bulletin
