Good morning, Bend. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 11th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bend-La Pine Schools will serve free summer meals for children and teens at three locations starting June 16 while the Boys and Girls Club of Bend will begin meal service on June 24—meals must be eaten on site and parents can join or purchase a meal for $5.  Bend Bulletin
  • Central Oregon nonprofits—MountainStar Family Relief Nursery and Deschutes Children’s Foundation—warned that federal funding risks may lead to reduced community services after USDA announced more than $1 billion in cuts that already forced groups like NeighborImpact to cut food supplies by 17%. The organizations stressed their vital role in providing support during crises and everyday needs.  KTVZ
  • Oregon youth ages 1 to 18 can access free summer meals at nearly 700 sites — offered at schools, libraries, parks and community centers — as part of the Summer Food Service Program. Some sites already serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks while others will begin serving meals later this month.  Central Oregon Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Team Rubicon—a group of military veterans and first responders—has deployed nearly 40 volunteers to the Wagon Trail Ranch community in La Pine to thin trees, clear brush and remove fire fuels over a 10-day period, with the project running through today. This action aims to reduce wildfire risk after recent severe fire seasons.  Central Oregon Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bend's Northeast Second Street between Franklin and Greenwood avenues opens to two-way traffic today—part of a Core Area upgrade supported by the City and the Bend Urban Renewal Agency. The City invites community members to a project completion celebration at 4:15 p.m. on June 24 at Dogwood at the Pine Shed.  KTVZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A monthly housing report said that in May Bend’s market moved closer to balance with nearly six months of inventory as the median price fell to $772,000 and homes sold in about 22 days — a sign that the market is cooling after many years favoring sellers. Local experts noted that while conditions remain competitive, the increased supply could give buyers more choices.  Bend Bulletin
