COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Healing Reins Equine Assisted Services in Tumalo is helping kids like 11-year-old Hazel benefit from horse therapy that includes adaptive riding, physical therapy, and mental health services. The nonprofit will expand its facility by adding a roof over its outdoor arena to increase class times and hire more therapists (which will nearly double its capacity) to meet growing demand.  KTVZ

CRIME NEWS

  • A Bend man (55-year-old Steven Earl Ramsey) was arrested early Friday at around 4:15 a.m. at Space Age Fuel on Grandview Drive for allegedly building Molotov cocktails and throwing one at a deputy—causing minor injuries to a K9 and damaging the store (estimated at $11,000–$15,000), police said.  KTVZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Matthew Nonato, 18, from Redmond High graduated on Friday and will compete in two national welding competitions this summer—he plans to train in Ohio in August before taking a welding job in Alaska or Australia.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Deschutes County will start road construction tomorrow through June 14 in Bend where crews will apply slurry seal in Cimarron City and Deschutes River Woods, chip seal on Tekampe and Knott roads, fog seal several routes, and pave Nelson Rd—each work zone will have lane closures and delays during work hours. Other agencies will close Smith Rock Way on U.S. 97 Monday for bridge work, keep Deschutes Market Road closed at Yeoman for roundabout construction, and restrict access on China Hat Road and FS Road 1815 for forest thinning.  County of Deschutes
  • Oregon lawmakers approved House Bill 3546, known as the POWER Act, to create a new rate class for data centers so that tech companies cover grid expansion costs instead of passing them on to customers. The bill passed with bipartisan support—Gov. Tina Kotek is expected to sign it soon.  Bend Bulletin

  • Campbell McKean from Caldera High missed his graduation to race in Indianapolis—winning the 50-meter breaststroke in 26.90 seconds against an Olympic veteran. He will join Team USA at this summer's World Championships in Singapore and add to his state record list.  Bend Bulletin
