COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NeighborImpact has canceled two food programs in Central Oregon due to a 25% drop in food supply from canceled federal orders, leaving hundreds of families and homebound individuals without support. The Redmond mobile pantry that served 277 people closed after May 29 and the Fresh Express Home Delivery for 380 will end after June 27+ executive director Scott Cooper warned more cuts are coming and said lawmakers are being consulted while new fundraising campaigns will be launched.  Bend Bulletin

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Americana will open on Bond Street in the historic Downing Hotel (formerly home to Seven Nightclub) in downtown Bend on Saturday. The new restaurant will serve its popular $8 OG burger and other burger options as the food truck closes this week and the team readies the space while it awaits its liquor license.  Bend Bulletin

CRIME NEWS

  • A Bend man was arrested with a handgun and over two pounds of cocaine packaged for sale after CODE Team spotted drug-dealing behavior, but he was released on his own recognizance due to county release policies — a prosecutor said the release rules are concerning.  KTVZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Deschutes County and the city of Bend plan to close Juniper Ridge—an area of 1350 acres north of Bend—to camping by the end of 2026 as service providers work to connect campers to housing. The city will begin relocating some campers this Saturday to a temporary safe stay area of 170 acres while the Bureau of Land Management clears a federal parcel of 45 acres north of Juniper Ridge.  Bend Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • The family of Celia Hess, 76, filed a $17 million wrongful death lawsuit against Aspen Ridge Memory Care after she died of heat stroke last summer when she was left outside in nearly 100-degree weather + state inspectors later required the facility to boost staffing and improve safety measures.  Bend Bulletin

  • Today the Bend Elks open their 2025 season at Vince Genna Stadium against the Ridgefield Raptors with first pitch at 6:35 p.m.—players are arriving from college teams and new staff are training quickly.
