  • The Backcountry Horsemen of Oregon are hosting an annual Horse Rendezvous event at the Sisters Cow Camp where locals can learn essential backcountry skills such as packing a mule or horse, tying proper knots, and maintaining trails (open to everyone, regardless of horse ownership).  Central Oregon Daily

  • The new Open Arts Center, founded by Maija Kellner-Rode and Claire Brislin, will open on June 5 at 999 NE 2nd St, offering a Teen Center, art studios and a gallery with local artwork along with live music and interactive mural making for community connection.  Source Weekly
  • I'm With Her, a roots-pop supergroup of acclaimed artists, will perform at Tower Theatre this Sunday, May 31 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at 835 NW Bond Street in Bend as the show is sold out.  Bend Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cadets from Crook County High School NJROTC joined regional teams in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, May 28 — the five-day trip included visits to the Pentagon, Lincoln Memorial, and Arlington, and raised $100,000 through community fundraising.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Devils Lake near Bend offers hikers a cool retreat with clear waters and views of Mount Bachelor along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. Morning visitors can enjoy a two-mile trail (parking requires a pass between June 15 and Oct. 15).  Bend Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • IMC track and field athletes are set to begin the 5A state championships today at Hayward Field in Eugene. With 14 of the season's top marks, competitors like Summit's Ruth Gobershock are preparing for tougher challenges in events from hurdles to field jumps.  Bend Bulletin
  • The Bend Elks season begins today at Vince Genna Stadium with a three-game West Coast League series against the Springfield Drifters at 6:35 p.m. Coach Allen Cox said the team features local players and updated lighting for an exciting start & a promising homestand.  Bend Bulletin
