CULTURE NEWS

  • Deschutes County Fairgrounds announced its lineup for the Kendall Toyota of Bend Free Summer Concert Series, which will run from July 30 through Aug. 3 with free concerts and paid fair admission along with limited VIP tickets starting at $10—headliners include Brothers Osborne, AWOLNATION, Diplo, Tyga, and La Original Banda El Limón—and the concerts will feature pre- and post-show parties by Nashville-based DJ Grant Fisher.  Source Weekly

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The city hired former Chamber President/CEO Katy Brooks as its new economic development officer on Wednesday and she will lead plans for job growth, workforce development and livable wages—City Manager Eric King said her proven record in uniting business efforts will boost local opportunities.  KTVZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Bend Education Association and its members awarded $10,000 in scholarships to 14 graduating students from Bend-La Pine Schools to support their post-secondary education and training — the awards honor students who have excelled in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.  KTVZ
  • Bend-La Pine Schools announced new principals for High Desert Middle School and Cascade Middle School for the 2025-26 school year. Heather Bailey will lead High Desert starting July 1—replacing Jessica Reilly—and Kelly Schmidt will begin at Cascade on July 1.  KTVZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Redmond Airport will soon begin a two-year, $180 million expansion that nearly doubles waiting space and adds more shops and restaurants while remaining open—travelers may see shipping container boxes guiding them safely. The project is funded by city cash, federal and state funds, and fees from boarding, rental car, and parking.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Deschutes County Road Department is hosting a virtual open house to gather community input on updating its Transportation Safety Action Plan—aimed at reducing fatal or serious crashes on rural roads—and inviting drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to share their feedback online from May 27 through June 9.  Central Oregon Daily
