COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Local veterans met at the Bend VFW to share memories on Memorial Day and honor those who sacrificed their lives in service—veterans stressed the need for community members to remember the cost of freedom. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Yesterday morning, about 50 people met at the western end of Newport Avenue Bridge to remember U.S. soldiers who died serving our country. U.S. Army veteran Dick Tobiason led the event — showing maps of highways named for veterans and guiding a wreath-laying ceremony by Gold Star families and Boy Scouts. Bend Bulletin
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Goose— a jam-pop-rock band from New England—will return to Bend for its first show since 2022 on Friday at Hayden Homes Amphitheater at 6:30 p.m.; tickets cost $62.70 and fans can look forward to hearing new material from the band during the performance. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Six singers from Bend will travel to Normandy this weekend to perform at several D-Day commemorative events— they will sing on Utah Beach, join a memorial parade and service in Sainte-Mère-Église, and hold a final concert in Paris. They are the only choir from Oregon taking part in the 80th anniversary events. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ A Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputy rescued an injured river otter near Highway 97 and Tumalo Place early Sunday morning after the animal appeared to be struck by a car — extra help transported it to a rescue ranch and Think Wild Animal Hospital in Bend for treatment. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Deschutes County and other agencies are working on road construction from May 25–31 that includes paving Powell Butte Highway from McGrath Road to Neff Road and chip sealing on George Cyrus and Jordan Roads with flaggers causing up to 20-minute delays during work hours, and no work is scheduled on Memorial Day. Other projects involve U.S. 97 bridge work in Terrebonne, a roundabout construction that closes Deschutes Market Road at Yeoman Road with a detour in place, the closure of China Hat Road and Forest Service Road 1815 for forest thinning, and the reopening of Cascade Lakes Highway between Mt. Bachelor and FS Road 4270 with caution advised for icy spots. County of Deschutes

- ➤ Mt. Bachelor ended its ski season Monday after hundreds enjoyed final rides following a weekend of celebrations and an early November opening that drew crowds from far and wide. The resort will host summer activities before welcoming guests back next winter while offering discounted season passes until May 31st — pass sales are open now. KTVZ
