- ➤ Bend Olympian Hunter Hess has launched The Real Loser Project (a new merchandise line) to support youth access to action sports through nonprofit Stoked. He is selling a hat and T-shirt with all proceeds benefiting mentorship and community programs. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Competitive bicycle group ride Bent Alley Cat Races returns for its second season starting May 21 at Mirror Pond Plaza (in front of The Commons Café and Taproom). The weekly race challenges riders’ navigation skills on checkpoint courses and welcomes cyclists of all types. Source Weekly
- ➤ Cascade Youth and Family Center, a program of J Bar J Youth Services, is asking residents to provide temporary host homes for youth ages 11 to 17 in crisis. Hosts offer safe housing up to 21 days at $45 per night while receiving training and support (to help reconnect families). KTVZ
- ➤ On Saturday evening in Bend, nearly $250,000 was raised at the Casablanca masquerade gala for CASA to support volunteers who advocate for children in foster care. The event, deemed its most successful fundraiser, drew about 200 community members. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Central Library in Bend is offering free one-on-one 3D printer training as staff help beginners book a 25-minute session and learn the full process + printing; appointments start in June while all needed materials are provided. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ODF placed parts of Central Oregon under a regulated use closure beginning Monday, May 18 due to high fire danger from warm, dry, windy conditions. The closure restricts open fires, chainsaw use, off-road driving, and fireworks in (Crook, Deschutes, Gilliam, Jefferson, and Wheeler counties) until further notice. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Bend will begin Phase 1 of Neff Road improvements—a shared-use path and sidewalk infill pending City Council approval early June. A public information booth is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27 at 1462 NE Cushing Drive from 4:30 p.m. — 6:30 p.m. to share details. Central Oregon Daily
