  • Collectors and families gathered at the Deschutes County Fair, Expo Center on Saturday for the Central Oregon Cards & Collectibles Show; organizers plan to expand next year's event with additional space and an extra day, and the next show is set for Nov. 7.  Central Oregon Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • SeaPort Airlines will offer flights twice each week from Redmond to Portland, Seattle and Spokane from May 22 until Labor Day without TSA screening. CEO Kent Craford (a former commuter frustrated with delays) said the private hangar service allows flights lasting about 30 minutes.  Bend Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tribal leader Brad Parry of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation won the $50,000 Schnitzer Prize yesterday at the Portland Art Museum for his ongoing work restoring the Bear River Massacre site in Preston, Idaho — a project featuring native plantings, extensive volunteer support, and plans for an amphitheater. The prize is administered by Bend’s High Desert Museum to honor creative cultural renewal.  The Oregonian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OSU-Cascades plans to close its on-campus Little Kits daycare this summer unless a new provider is found, and many Bend parents worry about losing trusted care that supported their education + helped their children grow.  Bend Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Andy Krueger and Grace Perkins won the elite Pole Pedal Paddle races on May 16 in Bend after snowy conditions changed ski stages to mountain runs. Krueger claimed his second title and Perkins her third (weather forced a last-minute course change at Mt. Bachelor).  Bend Bulletin
