- ➤ Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity enlisted over 100 volunteers to finish final homes at Timber Cottages in Redmond. Among the 13 homes, 11 will be owned by households led by women (including eight single mothers). KTVZ

- ➤ Kiln will open a 43,000 sqft coworking hub at 501 SW Hill St in Old Mill District on Monday — the Utah-based company designed the space for 500+ members with coworking desks, private offices, wellness amenities and conference rooms to support Bend’s evolving remote work scene. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ At Rimrock Ranch near Sisters, the restored floodplain along Whychus Creek survived the 2025 Flat Fire largely intact—protecting a vital wildlife refuge and showing how wetland restoration can curb fire damage. A restoration tour is scheduled for June 7 and a star party for July 18. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Central Oregon public lands will enter Stage 1 fire restrictions Monday, May 18 at 12:01 a.m. due to hot, dry, windy weather raising wildfire risk. The restrictions ban open fires, smoking, and off road travel on lands including Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests (in designated zones) to help protect the region. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Retired Bend oncologist Dr. Stephen Kornfeld helped aboard a hantavirus-stricken cruise ship and now says his negative PCR and antibody tests indicate he likely never had the virus. He remains in the 42-day quarantine (pending federal approval) to protect the public. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ Caldera softball has surged this season with a strong lineup and forceful offense as the Wolfpack prepare for the final regular season week ahead of state playoffs starting May 26. Coach Lisa Kienzle said the team's smart play — from both offense and pitching — gives them an edge. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Bulletin readers named Sydney Schreiber of La Pine and Alexander Jarrell of Crook County as Athletes of the Week for track events from May 4 to 9.
