  • Documents filed in federal bankruptcy court show that Philadelphia-based Rite Aid plans to close 115 stores — including a dozen in Oregon — as it seeks judge approval for its bankruptcy reorganization.  The Oregonian
  • Spiceland Indian Restaurant has held its soft opening in downtown Bend at 945 NW Bond St.—the former Chomp Chomp space now features a fresh coat of light green paint and offers authentic South and North Indian dishes prepared to order. The menu includes both a la carte options and thali plates that let diners enjoy a complete meal experience.  Bend Bulletin
  • Rachel L. Koch, a 27-year-old baker, opened her Jewish bakery in Bend in 2021 after not finding a deli and took a year off when burnout set in, before returning to bake classic challah and babka along with dark chocolate treats. Her goods are now available for delivery at local markets and she will have a booth at NorthWest Crossing Farmers Market starting May 31—helping her build a balanced pace for her business.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Deschutes County has expanded free hazardous waste drop-offs at Knott Landfill in Bend to every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The service will help reduce dangerous items—such as unfinished paint and rechargeable batteries—from harming local soil and water.  KTVZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • At 85, Bob Sanders finished biking from San Diego to St. Augustine in 44 days and is now back in Bend to submit evidence for a Guinness world record—he rode with support from his friend Jack and his wife Kathryn who celebrated the kindness he experienced along the ride.  Central Oregon Daily
  • The 47th SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle on Saturday will see Bend’s elite winners Andy Krueger and Grace Perkins return as favorites in a multisport race that runs from Mt. Bachelor to Riverbend Park using skiing—biking—running—and paddling stages. Officials expect the first racers to finish around 11 a.m. despite forecasts of rain and snow on the mountain.  Bend Bulletin
  • KTVZ announced that it will debut its new weekly sports show, Beyond the Score, hosted by Dylan Anderman on Saturday, June 15th at 10:30 p.m. on KFXO—re-airing later on KTVZ+, to feature exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes access to Central Oregon athletes and community contributors.  KTVZ
