CRIME NEWS

  • Bend Police investigated the homicide of Robert Glenn Haston reported at 7:16 p.m. on May 7 in NE Bend—detectives ask anyone who saw suspect Phillip Matthew Howard Evans between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. near NE Second and Eighth streets and NE Clay and Marshall avenues to contact nonemergency dispatch.  Central Oregon Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Oregon Community College will dedicate the revamped Robert D. Maxwell Veterans Resource Center on May 28 at the Coats Campus Center; the free event includes a ceremony from 4:00 to 4:45, refreshments, speakers, and a Chinook landing on the campus athletic field — all honoring Maxwell's legacy.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State economists reported on May 14th that Oregon’s next two-year budget will have nearly $756 million less in revenue than expected because tariffs have slowed economic growth—lawmakers face hard choices on spending as the state’s tax refund is projected to drop by $87.5 million. Officials say recovery may come in 2026 if federal policies and the economy improve.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Bend Municipal Airport will use $2.14 million in federal funding to rehabilitate 12,000 feet of taxiway pavement to extend its lifespan. The grant is part of a $22.7 million FAA package to modernize airports across Oregon (including those in Portland, Eugene and Corvallis).  Central Oregon Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Faith Hope and Charity Vineyards will host its 13th annual Crush Cancer fundraiser on May 17 to raise funds that will stay in Central Oregon for families facing cancer. The event will feature 5k, 10k and half-marathon runs + food, wine and live music.  Central Oregon Daily

  • The SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle will return to Bend this weekend with six legs starting at Mt. Bachelor and finishing at Riverbend Park—raising funds for the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation to lower youth program fees.  KTVZ
