  • Local business group Downtown Bend Business Association has invited residents to review a draft parking management plan designed to ease downtown parking issues. Community feedback is being collected via a survey as the association seeks ideas to adjust on-street pricing + time limits.  Bend Bulletin

  • Multi-platinum rapper Ja Rule will headline the Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo Concert Series on Friday, July 31, bringing his biggest hits to energize fairgoers and families in Central Oregon—VIP front-stage access tickets go on sale Friday at 10:00 a.m.  Central Oregon Daily

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Bend gas prices jumped last Tuesday with regular unleaded reaching $5.32 and diesel $6.20, according to AAA. AAA said limited regional supply (plus a switch to summer blend fuel) has driven higher costs while some states with higher gas taxes post lower pump prices.  Central Oregon Daily

  • COCC president Dr. Greg Pereira delivered a State of the College address in Bend Tuesday morning, noting that the college supports regional workforce training and boosts the local economy with a new 22,000 sqft expansion at Madras plus a planned Redmond expansion amid funding challenges.  KTVZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State fire officials warned that Oregon’s wildfire season has begun earlier than usual due to heat and drought and could last into October. Residents in Bend (and across the region) are advised to follow home hardening tips and review evacuation routes.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Photographers are snapping pictures of Phoenix, a fast-growing eaglet born at Smith Rock State Park earlier this year as park staff limit visitor access to protect nesting birds (to reduce stress) during this season.  Bend Bulletin

  • Drivers should note that Bend’s new red light cameras will start issuing tickets on May 15, while Redmond’s cameras begin a 30-day warning period before fines start on June 15 (capturing violations near key intersections and school zones).  Central Oregon Daily
  • The Oregon Department of Forestry is exploring making the Prineville Airport a year-round wildfire attack base, with plans that include leasing hangar space and enhancing local resources while four Single Engine Airtankers and an advanced Twin Otter remain stationed for this fire season (airport manager Kelly Coffelt confirmed ongoing discussions).  Central Oregon Daily
