COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tomorrow, May 1, CityFest and the First Friday Art Walk will take place downtown with CityFest running 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. featuring a state update and raffle and the art walk running 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. (look for guiding balloons).  KTVZ
  • Bend residents can host pro and junior racers from the Cascade Cycling Classic Criterium this Father’s Day weekend by offering a safe place with a bike area, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. The Horner Cycling Foundation seeks host applications by Tuesday, June 10 for overnight stays on June 20 and 21.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Patriot Guard Riders will bring the Fallen Soldier Cart (Cart Number 18) through Central Oregon on June 25 and 26 with ceremonies in Terrebonne at the Robert Maxwell gravesite and in Madras at the Tommy Tucker Memorial, including an overnight stay in Madras to honor fallen service members and veterans.  KTVZ

  • A heat lamp caused a chicken coop fire in Sisters early Wednesday at 12:07 a.m.—fire crews from three districts quickly controlled the blaze and all animals safely evacuated.  Central Oregon Daily

  • Poltex, INC is building an 11,800-sqft production facility, including a 1,500-sqft office, at 798 NE Jackpine Court in east Redmond. The company will move in in July to improve workflow and support manufacturing and shipping.  Bend Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • Glitterfox, a Portland band blending pop and indie rock, will perform at Bend's Homegrown Music Festival on Saturday, May 9 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Oregrown stage at Century Center — an event that highlights the region’s vibrant live music scene.  Bend Bulletin
  • El Ten Eleven will perform at Volcanic Theatre Pub on Friday, May 1 at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7 and tickets at $26.77. The Los Angeles band, now featuring piano and strings on their new album Nowhere Faster, will deliver its signature math rock sound at 70 SW Century Drive in Bend.  Bend Bulletin
  • Silver Moon Brewing in Bend hosts live music through the week — today, Blaggards perform Irish rock at 7 p.m., alt-rock groups play Friday at 7 p.m., extreme metal bands perform Saturday at 7 p.m., and Tyler Langham Band headlines Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $12.24.  Bend Bulletin

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Bend increased by 17 cents to an average of $5.09 a gallon this week — KBND reported that Oregon drivers are facing double-digit hikes at the pump.  KBND

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firewood season opens Friday, May 1 across the Deschutes and Ochoco national forests + Crooked River National Grassland, running until Nov. 30. Free personal-use permits allow up to eight cords, while commercial cutting needs a separate permit and may incur a $2.50 processing fee.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two high-elevation roads, Cascade Lakes Highway and Paulina Lake Road, will open at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 7, after crews completed early snow removal—some recreation sites may still be limited. Travelers should use caution as conditions may change.  Bend Bulletin

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Peter Skene Ogden Trail in La Pine is primed for spring hiking as fair-weather conditions clear its usual snowbound path. Locals can enjoy the 8.5-mile route from Ten Mile Sno-Park (a starting point for scenic views) and experience cascading waterfalls along Paulina Creek.  Bend Bulletin

  • Bend High senior Silas Waller—who also plays hockey with Cascade Select 18U AA—leads his golf team as he chases a championship run. He will compete on Monday at Quail Run and May 18-19 at Tokatee Golf Course.  Bend Bulletin
