COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new farmers market opened yesterday at Worthy Brewing on the Eastside and will run every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through September 28—featuring over 20 food vendors and more than 10 craft vendors.  Central Oregon Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Locals enjoyed one last weekend on popular trails south of Bend before the U.S. Forest Service begins its Cabin Butte Vegetation Management Project to reduce wildfire risk. A sign on Knott Road showed the closure started today+ although the official project starts May 1 and will keep the area off limits for at least a year.  Central Oregon Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chauncey Billups, the Trail Blazers coach and former Pistons star, attended Game 4 of the Knicks-Pistons series in Detroit on April 27 and received an ovation when shown on the scoreboard video—he was seen with former Pistons greats Isiah Thomas and Ben Wallace as the Knicks led the series 2-1.  The Oregonian
  • Southern Oregon University’s women’s basketball team held camps at Redmond High last weekend where athletes from grades 3 to 12 practiced skills and received signed basketballs and commemorative T-shirts in a deal with local nonprofit PIRS by SriPonya—organizers hope the camp will become an annual event to support youth prevention and recovery services in Central Oregon.  Central Oregon Daily
