  • Deschutes County leased land in east Redmond to Mountain View Community Development to build a 75-unit housing community for people facing homelessness and low incomes—construction will start in spring and summer with cottage-style units and community spaces.  Source Weekly

  • Music artist Ashleigh Flynn & The Riveters will perform West Coast Americana at Silver Moon Brewing in Bend on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.—launching their new album 'Good Morning, Sunshine' and marking a fresh start for the band. The group, which features guitarist Nancy Luca—producer of the album, aims to offer a lively show that draws local fans.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bend to Suttle Lake Wildlife Passage Initiative has raised over $1 million—including a $688,000 grant from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board—to apply for federal matching funds for engineering and design of four crossing structures over Highway 20. The project aims to reduce the 350—600 annual wildlife-vehicle collisions and will move forward with design later this month.  Central Oregon Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A draft report from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training confirmed that Deschutes County Sheriff Kent van der Kamp misrepresented his education and work history—he said he was set to release a statement on Wednesday after earlier claims surfaced during an investigation.  KTVZ
  • Deschutes County Sheriff Kent van der Kamp said he will not resign for 90 days after a district attorney report stated he lied under oath about his education on at least three occasions. Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler said he is unfit for the job — if van der Kamp resigns, the county commission will appoint an interim sheriff and voters will decide in 2026 — while county officials meet with legal experts to determine next steps.  Bend Bulletin
  • DMV offices are crowded as more Oregonians hurry to secure REAL ID before the May 7 deadline and staff are urging drivers not needing to fly soon to use online, phone, or mail services. Officials warn that processing can take up to three weeks and stress that customers bring the correct documents—one proof of identity, two proofs of address, lawful US status, and social security information—to avoid extra visits.  Central Oregon Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bendable Therapy partnered with Enthea — a third-party administrator for medication-assisted therapies — to help cover costs for psilocybin sessions that run from $1,500 to $4,000 and include up to 20 hours of facilitator meetings. The new arrangement offers residents improved access to therapeutic treatment in Bend and is a first in the industry.  Bend Bulletin
