- ➤ Serial entrepreneurs Rajni and Munish Dua bought the Teriyaki Madness franchise at The Forum Shopping Center in Bend and are giving control to their 20-year-old son Vansh Dua, a student at California State East Bay who will travel between the Bay Area and Bend to run the restaurant. The family that already runs four Del Tacos plans to buy more franchises in California in the future— a move that uses their extensive business experience. Bend Bulletin
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bend Police arrested a 29-year-old man on Thursday evening after shots were fired near Team Kia on Purcell Blvd with no injuries reported—he faces charges of attempted assault in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon. Central Oregon Daily
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 18, the Legislature passed bills to give schools $35 million for summer 2025, $35 million for summer 2026, and $12 million for June programs — setting rules to boost students' reading and writing levels. Gov. Tina Kotek said she will sign the bills soon so schools can plan ahead for summer learning. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Oregon Wild released a downloadable hiking guide that details 20 state river trails, including hike descriptions, permit rules and safety tips — the guide also backs the River Democracy Act to protect over 3200 miles of streams. Bend Bulletin
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City Council approved $4.85 million in contracts to improve about 67 lane miles of streets with paving, chipseal, and slurry seal treatments this summer. City officials said the Keep Good Roads Good plan will guide the work — it is funded by Transportation Fees. KTVZ
- ➤ The Deschutes County District Attorney’s report said Sheriff Kent van der Kamp misrepresented his educational history under oath and was placed on the Brady list for dishonesty—he blamed the errors on a graphic designer hired from Fiver and said he would share more details on Tuesday—.
