CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Deschutes County law enforcement is partnering with local retailers to crack down on shoplifting teams hitting stores in Bend — the effort is part of ongoing measures to protect community businesses. KBND
- ➤ A Bend man (Bryce Tanner Lupton, 25) was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday for criminally negligent homicide after he drove under the influence in a 2023 rollover crash on 15th Street near Bear Creek Road (the crash killed passenger Jacobic Lee Barnhill and injured passenger Shyann Oster). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ COCC's Clothing Connection offers free clothing for students in partnership with OSU-Cascades and a donation from Banana Republic that helped convert an old chemistry classroom into a service center. This Friday, COCC will host its 4th annual Earth Day Fashion Show with a temporary shop, kids upcycled projects and models displaying available clothing to fund the program. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Hospice of Redmond (a bereavement services organization) will expand its summer grief programs by holding a teen retreat on June 21 at Suttle Lake Camp for children aged 13 to 17 while Camp Sunrise runs June 20–22 for younger kids. The free programs serve children from Deschutes, Jefferson, or Crook counties (caregivers are interviewed beforehand to ensure a good fit). Bend Bulletin
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Think Wild—a local group that helps injured and orphaned wildlife—has run a wildlife hospital and education programs since it launched in 2020 under Sally Compton's leadership. The organization is now expanding its services with new builds such as an educational yurt and an aquatic mammal enclosure while relying solely on individual donations. Source Weekly

- ➤ Redmond Mayor Ed Fitch will host a water conservation summit on April 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall's conference room 208—HOA boards and landscapers will learn from local experts and hear about early pilot projects that reduce water use during summer. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Yesterday the council approved a code change making shareable pedal-assist e-bikes a permanent option in Bend—ending the use of the bright blue bikes provided by Bird, which is leaving the city. The program will allow between 100 and 500 bikes and is expected to launch by summer—offering residents and visitors a convenient non-car travel alternative. Bend Bulletin
