COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On April 9th, nearly 20 staff in the production kitchen at Bend High prepared meals from scratch using local ingredients to feed students in Bend, La Pine and Sunriver. Trucks loaded ingredients and pre-cooked food an hour early, and the kitchen—set to expand with the Bend High renovation—continues to offer fresh menus including white bean pork chili and al pastor tacos.  Bend Bulletin
  • The Humane Society of Central Oregon hosted its 3rd annual Kitten Shower on Saturday to help care for nearly 300 newborn and orphaned kittens this season, offering activities, a raffle plus information on its foster program. Donations are accepted through April at Mud Bay, Bend Pet Express locations and by mail at 61170 SE 27th Street, Bend.  Central Oregon Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In Warm Springs—tribal land—lawmakers held a Friday budget hearing to gather feedback from tribal members and central Oregon residents on state spending proposals. Attendees pressed for help with clean water, affordable housing, and essential funding under a $38 billion framework.  The Oregonian
  • Today, REI withdrew its support for Interior Secretary Doug Burgum—CEO Mary Beth Laughton apologized to the co-op's 24 million members and restated its dedication to protecting public lands. The move calls for increased government transparency—aiming to stop large-scale sell-offs of these lands.  Central Oregon Daily
