  • Former Oregon Secretary of State Bev Clarno turned 90 on Sunday, March 29 at Pappy’s Pizzeria (Redmond), where local leaders including former Gov. Ted Kulongoski recalled her service and lasting influence in state politics.  Bend Bulletin
  • The downtown library will close April 11 for remodeling as the new Central Library opens May 11, prompting the Novel Idea program to shift events; youth author Matali Perkins speaks April 16 at Redmond Library and adult author Thomas Khanstamm is set for May 2 at Summit High School.  Central Oregon Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mazama Energy will start a new phase of geothermal drilling at Newberry Volcano in 2026 as it shifts the project from pilot work to commercial scale. The plan calls for an observation well in the second quarter, an injection well in the third, and a production well in the fourth.  Bend Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tea and Art Lounge opened on Bond Street — just steps from Deschutes Brewery — in downtown Bend, offering tea, bite-sized art projects and a calm space for locals to get creative. The venue now provides art classes, book clubs and will participate in the city’s First Friday event.  KTVZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bend Fire & Rescue invites high schoolers to apply for Camp Fire Axe, a four-day summer fire academy scheduled for June 18–21 at the Training Centre (63377 NE Jamison St.). Applications open April 1 at 7 a.m. and spots will fill on a first-come, first-served basis.  KTVZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fields Farm's Jeremy Fox advises local gardeners to use greenhouses and plant cold-hardy crops as a mild winter sparks early interest despite freezing nights expected in late May and early June.
