COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On March 13 in Bend, the business membership program Purpose in Expenses donated nearly $69,000 to Central Oregon nonprofits during PIE Fest 2026 as part of a live check presentation, with Pahlisch Homes contributing the largest donation of $21,925 to support Bend LaPine Education Foundation CTE Programs — the event marked its sixth year of partnership.  KTVZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Deschutes County Search-Rescue volunteers rescued two climbers stranded nearly 400 feet high at Smith Rock State Park early Tuesday after their ropes snagged during Monday’s descent, and the operation ended at 1 a.m. with both uninjured.  KTVZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Elk Vintage will open its first brick-and-mortar store in Bend’s Old Mill District this spring at the historic Little Red Shed — the district’s oldest building — with a grand opening on May 1st from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The boutique will sell unique vintage clothing and accessories.  KTVZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Oregon FFA State Convention in Redmond, about 2,500 students wore blue corduroy jackets that show confidence and leadership. The jackets, costing $65 for standard styles (with financial help available), carry a long tradition linking past achievements to future growth.  Bend Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A bald eagle rescued from a field in Prineville is recovering at Think Wild after suffering injuries (shoulder dislocation and beak fracture) and is being monitored for lead poisoning. Staff say if progress continues, the bird will begin gentle flight therapy.  KTVZ
  • Deschutes County Solid Waste will host free hazardous waste collection events on select Saturdays in April — residents can drop off items at the Negus Transfer Station in Redmond on April 4, the Sisters Recycling Center on April 11, and the South County Services Center in La Pine on April 18.  County of Deschutes

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bend Parks and Rec crews prepared for spring today by clearing 2,500 yards of debris (about 250 dump trucks) to reduce fire risk and upgrade sports fields and trails. The project, normally delayed by snow, was finished early due to a mild winter.  KBND
  • The Oregon Department of Forestry is testing its new $13.23 million Twin Otter aircraft—equipped with AI-enabled mapping and night vision—at a California site before it heads to Prineville Airport for crew training ahead of the fire season.  KTVZ
  • Deschutes County law enforcement launches a three-day Spring Break Blitz campaign today to promote safe driving by targeting the Fatal 5 behaviors in Bend and nearby areas. Patrols and community outreach will run until March 27.  KTVZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Central Oregon Trail Alliance and BLM have upgraded trails at Cline Buttes and Cascade View by adding 11.5 miles of new routes and clear signage, protecting golden eagle nests and private property along the way. Riders can now enjoy a stress-free experience on these enhanced mountain bike trails.  Bend Bulletin
