EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Oregon Youth ChalleNGe program, run by the Oregon National Guard, received an outstanding rating under new federal rules—making it the first in the nation to do so. Last year, 165 students graduated as the program helped them get back on track for high school or a GED. Central Oregon Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Tina Kotek released an online map of state land suitable for housing development—homebuilders may use the tool to identify sites as they work toward meeting the state's housing needs. The Oregonian
- ➤ Gov. Tina Kotek asked state regulators (the Public Utility Commission) how they will lower residential electricity and natural gas bills and help utilities shift to clean energy amid rising rate concerns. Her letter requested details on bill discount programs and consumer protections to keep costs reasonable as utilities transition. The Oregonian
- ➤ Senator Broadman from Bend announced Monday that the Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on Public Safety will hold accountability hearings into the Oregon Youth Authority in response to a DAS investigation and troubling news reports. The hearings will be scheduled later this legislative session—while the agency presents its budget to the subcommittee this week—aiming to improve oversight of state care. KTVZ
