  • Rainshadow Organics has transformed an 80-acre family hay field into a full-diet organic farm that now supplies a wide range of food to 70 CSA families and seasonal program participants, supporting local restaurants and food banks (building deep community connections).  Bend Bulletin
  • Heritage Apple Corps launched the Heritage Fruit Tree Registry today to document historic fruit trees in Central Oregon. The registry offers orchard maps, DNA analysis, and tree health assessments, and a preservation orchard is being established on donated land (volunteer roles available) to safeguard local agricultural heritage.  KTVZ
  • Local dog walkers and pedestrians say speeding e-bikes on river trails make their paths feel unsafe. Officials say throttle assisted e-bikes must ride on roads while local bike rental operators urge riders to slow down.  Central Oregon Daily

  • Silver Moon Brewing will host a busy week of music starting Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. with Metalachi, followed by Larry and His Flask on Friday, March 27—marking their first Central Oregon show in seven years—and multiple acts on Saturday, March 28 at 24 NW Greenwood Ave.  Bend Bulletin
  • The Banff Mountain Film Festival returns to Bend; the two-day event will run April 17 and 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Tower Theatre, with general admission at $30 plus student tickets at $20 boosting fieldwork and elective programs at Realms Schools.  Central Oregon Daily

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported gas prices remain high today at about $4.85 per gallon, while Gas Buddy noted that talks between the US and Iran may lower oil prices later this week. Experts advise using discount memberships at local stations.  Central Oregon Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bend Sustainability Fund awarded up to $100,000 from visitor tax dollars to 11 projects. The Environmental Center will launch a reusable tableware wash hub and the disc golf course at Skyline Park will get signage by late fall — community votes on the projects are open through Apr. 1.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cascades East Transit noted a slight drop in bus ridership after fares returned in February to help avoid service cuts. The agency is evaluating routes and expanding dial-a-ride service in Deschutes, Jefferson & Crook Counties.  Central Oregon Daily

  • Central Oregon high school track teams gear up for a competitive spring season as Caldera—Bend’s newest high school that won state titles last year—and Summit with record-setting athletes prepare to take on key challenges (including standout freshman Rikaiya Griffin) at early meets.  Bend Bulletin
  • Bend native and Team USA Olympian Hunter Hess finished third in the Snow League Men's Championship in LAAX Switzerland this week (116 season points) as he joined the top 16 athletes in the event, which aired live on NBC Sports.  KTVZ
