  • On Saturday, Mar. 21, NeighborImpact donated $5,000 in gift cards to support nearly 70 TSA officers working without pay at Redmond Municipal Airport amid a partial government shutdown. The nonprofit provided 70 cards at $75 each + helped TSA employees and their families with everyday essentials.  Bend Bulletin

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Three Sisters Historical Society hosted the 'Hollywood Comes to Sisters' Fireside Series last Sunday, showing local film clips and memorabilia from productions like Rooster Cogburn and The Postman. The society said a second installment will occur on April 19.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Ovation Performing Arts debuts Seussical Jr. at Sisters High School from March 27 to 29 with nearly 40 local children in a family musical adapting Dr. Seuss (tickets cost $15). Community volunteers help set the stage by building sets and costumes.  KTVZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews from Deschutes National Forest will start prescribed burns today at 9 a.m. near Camp II OHV staging area, 15 miles southeast of Bend, burning 550 acres with a further 1,270 acres planned on Flank 4 later this week and causing trail closures and visible smoke.  KTVZ

  • Central Oregon winter sports are ending as low snow levels force closures; the Pavilion at Bend Park and Recreation District will close its ice rink April 4 — then convert to a roller rink April 5 through 15, while Hoodoo and Meissner Nordic have ended their seasons.  Bend Bulletin
  • For the upcoming 2025-26 girls basketball season, league coaches honored Henley sophomore Makayla Schroeder as player of the year and named Mazama’s Kyle Slezak as coach of the year. Awards also include first and second teams plus honorable mentions from Henley, Phoenix, Klamath Union and Hidden Valley.  The Oregonian
