- ➤ Heart of Oregon Corps is 90% funded for a new Redmond campus and still needs $765,000 to complete its $7.3 million project before a Sept. 30 ribbon cutting — local businesses are invited to a ‘Make Your Mark’ breakfast on April 1 at 835 E. Highway 126. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ The Bend Park & Recreation District will open registration on March 17 at 6 a.m. for full- and half-day summer camps and the following day for sports leagues and fall youth activities. Camps run from mid-June through August and a payment plan is available until March 31. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Camp Fire will host Absolutely Incredible Kid Day at The Pavilion this Sunday, offering free ice skating + birthday cake and other fun activities for the first 200 children as doors open at 12:30 p.m. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Bend Park and Recreation District will study ways to complete the Deschutes River Trail in southwest Bend, which may include a new bridge. An open house is scheduled for Thursday, April 2 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Elk Meadows Elementary School & an online option runs through April 23. Central Oregon Daily
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters with Deschutes National Forest plan to begin spring prescribed burns next week if conditions stay favorable; up to 11,626 acres will be burned across Bend and other districts to lower wildfire risk & boost forest health. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Firefighters from the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District extinguished a 1.8 acre wildland fire on Wednesday afternoon between Wilt Road and Whychus Canyon Estates northeast of Sisters after winds re-ignited a two-day-old burn pile (they halted the spread by 2:30 p.m.) and urged homeowners to check burn piles. - ➤ Deschutes County declared a drought emergency last Thursday so residents can soon apply for state funds to ease crop and water shortages caused by record low snowpack and reduced river flows. Governor Tina Kotek must approve the measure for aid to be released. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ A storm will deliver about 4 inches of snow to ski areas including Mt. Bachelor, Hoodoo, and Willamette Pass from today night to Saturday, while dry conditions at Horse Ridge let riders tackle 30 miles of trails. Hoodoo’s Winter Carnival offers fun events this weekend. Bend Bulletin
- ➤ Steins Pillar in the Ochoco National Forest offers a secluded four-mile roundtrip hike from a primitive parking area near Prineville. Hikers can enjoy scenic views and woodland trails and are advised to stay alert for wildlife (including cougars). Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Freshman Jett Washington, a top-rated safety for the Ducks and nephew of Kobe Bryant, will wear No. 24 this season to honor his late uncle — his tribute was shared on Instagram, and he chose the Ducks over Alabama and USC. The Oregonian
