Firefighters from the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District extinguished a 1.8 acre wildland fire on Wednesday afternoon between Wilt Road and Whychus Canyon Estates northeast of Sisters after winds re-ignited a two-day-old burn pile (they halted the spread by 2:30 p.m.) and urged homeowners to check burn piles.

Deschutes County declared a drought emergency last Thursday so residents can soon apply for state funds to ease crop and water shortages caused by record low snowpack and reduced river flows.

Governor Tina Kotek must approve the measure for aid to be released.
