- ➤ Four couples wed at the Deschutes County courthouse on Friday the 13th as part of Bend’s annual Cupid’s Docket, a Valentine’s Day tradition adjusted because the holiday falls on Saturday. Judge Raymond Crutchley said the event offers a welcome change from routine cases. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ OSU-Cascades is offering free tax preparation services for qualifying families and individuals from Feb. 9 to April 15 through the VITA program — appointments run Mondays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. Bend Bulletin

- ➤ Point Blank Distributing is closing its Bend and Eugene facilities and laying off over 150 workers as Columbia Distributing takes over operations. Local beverage brands now face uncertainty during the transition. Central Oregon Daily
- ➤ Cascade Lakes Brewing acquired Crux Fermentation Project — part of the new Oregon Beverage Collective formed by five local craft beverage brands — to share production resources and preserve each brand's distinct brewing style. - ➤ Wildhorse Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki (a longtime Bend staple) announced its closure after 26 years at the Sherman Road location near Empire Avenue. The business thanked local riders and supporters for decades of loyalty. Central Oregon Daily

- ➤ The Hollywood Theatre is marking its 100th anniversary in 2026 by challenging film fans to attend 100 screenings. Movie lovers will track their progress through themed events and earn prizes — including a centennial pin and free admissions in 2027. The Oregonian

- ➤ Gov. Tina Kotek convened her new Prosperity Council on Jan. 22 to tackle Oregon’s widening productivity gap by aiming to boost GDP, create jobs & support the local workforce. The panel, which includes business and tech leaders, is set to propose ideas that could streamline regulations and help homegrown industries. Source Weekly

- ➤ Bend-La Pine Schools are phasing out traditional grades in favor of a new system that focuses on learning goals instead of homework or tests. Some students and teachers say the change is confusing and expect it to be fully in place next fall. The Oregonian
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Jan. 26, a Deschutes County resident photographed an animal resembling a wolf near the Bill Healy Bridge along the Deschutes River, following another sighting near Sunriver; wildlife officials have not confirmed if it is a wolf or a large coyote+ and ask residents to report similar encounters. - ➤ Rob Imhoff, a candidate for Position 5 on the Deschutes County Board, is reviving local ownership of Mt. Bachelor by urging a partnership between local businesses and the county, letting voters decide with a $1 million bond (raising taxes slightly). He said interest is strong after a sale effort failed. - ➤ Redmond Municipal Airport is expanding its terminal with a new 80,000 sqft facility that adds a concourse, seven jet bridges, concessions and doubles seating capacity; officials announced the $3.8 million FAA funding on Feb. 9 and said the project will ease overcrowding for upcoming holiday travel. - ➤ Ochoco National Forest and Crooked River National Grassland are hiring seasonal workers for the summer recreation season to support visitor services and public land upkeep.
