  • On Saturday, Feb. 7, dogs pulled kegs at Sunriver Brewing Co. during the K9 Keg Pull event featuring five weight classes and over 140 competitors while local groups ran booths. Owners cheered each run and dogs received speed awards — a tradition that showcases local participation.  Bend Bulletin
  • Central Oregon restaurants presented their best soups at the HDFFA SOUPer Bowl on Saturday in Bend, where guests voted for a People’s Choice and a Culinary Panel picked a champion (the event sold 400 tickets). Funds raised supported local food access programs.  Central Oregon Daily

  • Central Oregon's Shaniko Wool Company is providing sustainable American wool for Team USA’s uniforms for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan — the natural fiber was chosen for its warmth and eco benefits. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bend will gain about 1 hour and 16 minutes more daylight in February as the sun will rise at 6:43 a.m. and set at 5:52 p.m. by Feb. 28 when daylight increases from 9 hours and 53 minutes to 11 hours and 9 minutes.  Central Oregon Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cascades East Transit resumed fare collection this month after fare-free service since spring 2020, setting fares at $2 per ride with daily caps and reduced rates for qualifying riders. Sign-up events for the new CET Go Pass are held in Bend and nearby areas this month & aim to support service improvements.  Source Weekly

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Charles Bend held a free teen heart screening event on Saturday to help catch early signs of heart disease. The testing included an EKG, echocardiogram, and blood pressure check (as well as CPR and AED training) to protect young athletes.  KTVZ
  • Lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 1527, which would require insurers to cover follow-up tests after abnormal cervical cancer screenings without out-of-pocket costs, and passed the Senate Health Committee plus it now heads to the Senate floor.  The Oregonian
