COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redmond community organizers are holding the Super Bowl & Cornhole for a Cause tournament this Sunday at the Redmond VFW to raise funds for 7-year-old Colt Simpson to get a diabetic alert dog; doors open at 12 p.m. and the event will feature prizes, raffle items and a mullet contest.  Central Oregon Daily
  • This week Bend hosts a busy calendar of events including a Saturday 'Cats on Mats' meditation (2/7, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Playful Paws Cat Cafe) and a Sunday Night Glide group Nordic ski (2/8, 6-8 p.m. at Meissner Sno-Park) with free rentals available. CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, locals can enjoy karaoke at Ponch’s Place (6-8 p.m.) and a cover band at McMenamins Old St. Francis School (7 p.m.), while upcoming shows include bluegrass by Skillethead on Wednesday; the week offers diverse live music options in Bend.  Bend Bulletin
  • On Saturday, Feb. 7, the High Desert Museum will open 'Under Pressure: A Volcanic Exploration,' a new exhibit that guides visitors through the natural power and history of volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest.   • The Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation is accepting SELCO Kids' Mini PPP art contest entries from now until 4 p.m. on Feb. 27 to choose artwork for the team race at Seventh Mountain Resort on May 17 + the winning student earns free entry while educators gain new lesson resources.  KTVZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Congressman Bentz announced today that he nominated 16 Oregon students for U.S. service academies (Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine) using recommendations from his Service Academy Nomination Board of military officers. Final admission decisions will be made by each academy this spring.  Source Weekly

HEALTH NEWS

  • Congresswoman Bynum and Senator Wyden sent a letter to CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz Friday, demanding a fix for a 6-million-dollar error that harms St. Charles Health System in Bend from its 2022 merger. The representatives call for prompt action to secure local healthcare.  Source Weekly

  • Oregon Adaptive Sports continues its Ski for Life program by offering ski and snowboard lessons for students with disabilities at Mt. Bachelor despite low snow coverage.
