  • A local nonprofit held its second annual Game of Skate event at the Volcanic Theatre Pub—16 skaters competed and the sale of 250 presale tickets helped raise funds for a future indoor skate park.  Central Oregon Daily

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Hudson — a new fine dining restaurant at 900 Wall — held a private soft opening event Thursday to benefit the Humane Society and will open to the public next month. It will offer a generous menu for quick bites and special events in downtown Bend.  Central Oregon Daily

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study by Anthropic (released on Jan. 15) found Oregon ranked 9th among states for AI use as residents turned to the tool for shopping research, school assignments, home repairs, and health tips.  Central Oregon Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elementary students at Terrebonne Community School showed dance moves for parents today—a daylong performance that is part of the school’s physical education program incorporating dance.  Central Oregon Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bend resident Shiv Shakti builds regenerative greenhouses that let fruit trees, vegetables and herbs thrive year-round without chemicals — using sustainable designs and local materials. He plans to work with the city to expand local food production.  Bend Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Tuesday, Jan. 27, the annual Point in Time count will measure homelessness in several areas including Bend, La Pine, Sisters, Redmond, Prineville, Madras, and Warm Springs — data that will guide local housing services and HUD funding until Feb. 2.  Central Oregon Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • AirLink celebrates 40 years and 40,000 missions in Central Oregon — its helicopters continue to provide fast medical transport from Bend and Klamath Falls while partnering with local EMS agencies and hospitals.  Central Oregon Daily
  • Health officials say Central Oregon’s flu activity is high as positivity rates reached 22.7% following holiday gatherings (this ranks second in the state). Local guidance recommends vaccination and frequent hand washing to help reduce the spread.  KTVZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two Central Oregon girls' basketball players reached 1,000 career points on Tuesday. Redmond's Mylaena Norton scored 16 in a win over Ridgeview (she was the first from her school) while Caldera’s Sammy Chandler, overcoming a dislocated elbow, reached 1,001 in a loss to Bend High.  Bend Bulletin
