STAR-Trail F: Hand building

About this event

Where: -Meet at 44.22702, -121.54192 google maps location

• From Sisters go south on Three Creek Road for 3 miles, then turn left on NF-1608

• Stay on 1608 for 1.5 miles then at the top of the hill turn right on NF 1608-500 (also known as Shattuck Road)

• Stay on Shattuck Road for .5 miles, then turn right onto 1608-600.

• Drive down the 600 road for .4 miles until you see the powerline road.

• Turn right on the powerline road until you see parked cars.

What: As we moved the machine down, there were sections of side hill that had a lot of rocks. In order to keep the trail difficulty and the rocks, we decided to save those sections for hand building. This is very different from the hand finishing work we've been doing. A lot more digging, using rock bars and picks to move material off and cut in the new trail.
